Washington, D.C.

Accelerate Science Now, a non-partisan coalition of leaders in industry, academia, civil society, and the research community, is launching today with a bold mission: to ignite a new era of rapid scientific discovery and deliver the benefits to the American people.

ASN and its members will develop partnerships, conduct research, and educate policymakers and the public about opportunities to transform the scientific enterprise around the potential of AI and other game-changing technologies.

ASN is a big-tent movement, aligned with and working in parallel to other major initiatives that focus on scientific progress. ASN will engage leaders in the public and private research ecosystem to learn from and build upon the effects of all aligned efforts.

“The United States is in a moment of tremendous scientific potential. AI and other game-changing technologies have made it possible to solve some of our hardest challenges,” said Austin Carson, Founder & CEO of SeedAI. “We must capture this opportunity and deliver the benefits to the American people. Doing so will require a grand national effort across the public and private sectors. If we succeed, we will unlock unprecedented advances to improve lives, strengthen our economy, and cement the U.S. as the global leader in scientific innovation.”

Accelerate Science Now is led by SeedAI, a non-profit, nonpartisan organization working at the forefront of artificial intelligence policy and governance. The initial members of Accelerate Science Now include: Amazon Web Services; Anthropic; Association of American Universities; Astera Institute; Black Tech Street; Carnegie Mellon University; Center for Data Innovation; Cohere; Computing Research Association; Emerald Cloud Lab; Energy Sciences Coalition; Federation of American Scientists; Foundation for American Innovation; FutureHouse; Ginkgo Bioworks; Institute for Progress; Institute for AI Policy and Strategy; Information Technology Industry Council; Leigh University; Meta; National Applied AI Consortium; Renaissance Philanthropy; Samsung; SeedAI; UbiQD; UC Berkeley; UC Irvine, University of Florida; University of Wisconsin-Madison; and the Wilson Center Science and Technology Innovation Program.

The Accelerate Science Now coalition will focus on the following key areas:

  • AI: Support transformational and responsible AI capabilities at every stage of the scientific process to drive constant progress and allow humans to focus on creativity.

  • Data: Have unified platforms that ensure scientific data is coherent, complete, easily accessible, and that experimental data is automatically collected.

  • Participation: Supercharge participation across the country by creating cross-disciplinary public-private partnerships and more venues to evaluate and deliver innovation.

  • Compute: Ensure the U.S. has and maintains the global lead in compute power for science & the energy infrastructure required.

More voices from the coalition:

“Our organization joins the ASN coalition because we recognize that society stands at a critical juncture; artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies have enormous promise to accelerate scientific innovation, but it will require transparency and collaboration to fully harness these benefits,” says Oliver Stephenson, Associate Director of AI and Emerging Technology Policy at the Federation of American Scientists.

“AI, advanced computing, and unprecedented volumes of scientific data are transforming how we innovate and stay ahead of international competition,” said Leland Cogliani and Sarah Walter, Co-Chairs of the Energy Sciences Coalition. “We look forward to working with our Accelerate Science Now partners to find opportunities to grow investments and accelerate the adoption of AI for science, energy, and national security applications. The Department of Energy Office of Science in particular has unique capabilities, such as the world’s fastest and highly energy efficient supercomputers, that need to be fully utilized to address the nation’s greatest challenges.”

“AI is reshaping science, not just by accelerating what we know, but by reimagining the process of discovery itself. However, these breakthroughs won’t reach their full potential without a deliberate effort to maximize and spread the benefits to all Americans—that’s why ASN’s mission is so important,” said Hodan Omaar, Senior Policy Manager for Center for Data Innovation.

"The University of Wisconsin–Madison is proud to support ASN, recognizing the importance of AI to dramatically accelerate research progress across a wide variety of scientific fields from climate modeling to neurobiology, shrinking the time and dollar cost of developing new therapeutics, and allowing for data analysis at a volume never before possible," says Dorota Brzezinska, vice chancellor for research at UW–Madison. "ASN's goals perfectly align with our own as we recently launched an AI initiative aimed at growing our AI faculty and expanding our AI-related research portfolio to not only leverage current AI tools, but to create the next generation of AI tools that bolsters innovation allowing the United States to remain competitive in a global research landscape."

“Black Tech Street is proud to support SeedAI’s Accelerate Science Now initiative because we support American leadership in innovation. Science is the bedrock of human advancement and streamlining the process by which Americans can tangibly feel its benefits will be central to AI’s adoption and strategic application. “ said Tyrance Billingsley II, Founder & Executive Director of Black Tech Street.

"In this time of unimaginable breakthroughs in computing and artificial intelligence, it's essential that America unlocks talent and potential across the country to enter another golden age of scientific progress and discovery," said Kellee Wicker, Director of the Science and Technology Innovation Program at the Wilson Center. "ASN's goals are key to ensuring that our nation can take advantage of the sheer possibility ahead of us to generate real and meaningful benefits for all Americans."

"The time to act is now. The power of AI to enable scientific discovery at speed and scale is essential to deliver the innovation required for our economic vitality and national security. We're excited to be part of this growing coalition of diverse industry and academic partners who are driving the future of science," says Theresa Mayer, vice president of research at Carnegie Mellon University.

"AI has the potential to revolutionize scientific discovery — accelerating breakthroughs, expanding research, and delivering real benefits to the American people. We’re proud to support Accelerate Science Now as part of a collective effort to create the conditions for positive scientific innovation" said Jenny Marron, Director of Policy and Engagement at Institute for AI Policy and Strategy.
